This Week’s New Comics!

TWNC

It’s new comic day and I thought I would try moving the article to Wednesday’s, which is the traditional release date for comics, in order to address some questions we had about when books would be available.  If you’re reading this, then the comics mentioned are available for sale today, so go to the local comic shop and stock up on some of these amazing titles!!  – NB

5 Comics To Watch

Batman Superman #1 (D.C.) – Ummm…do I really have to try and sell this one to you all?  You’ve got Batman and Superman in the same book…with art by the amazing Jae Lee, written by Greg Pak.  This has hit series written all over it.  That is all.

Guardians of the Galaxy #4 (Marvel) – So far, so great!  Last issue was where we finally got to really see the team in action…with Groot laying the root down on those baddies in order to save his GotG teammates.  I’ve been really impressed with this book so far, and have no doubts it’ll only get better as the team gets more established.  And still waiting to make his mark…that scary green dude with the awesome tats.  You just know he’s going to blow up one of these issues!

Jupiter’s Legacy #2 (Image) – The first issue of this Mark Millar/Frank Quietly series was really solid.  The two month wait hasn’t really dampened interest or expectations at all really…though it helps that there are just so may awesome titles out right now that you don’t really notice the two month gap. As good as the Millar story looks like it’ll be, I’m all-in for the Quietly art extravaganza!  Dude can draw a mean comic book!

Justice League of America #5 (D.C.) – The ‘other’ Justice League book has been very solid since its launch only a few short months ago, and if the cover of this issue is any indication, things are about to get real for this team of heroes. Death issues typically draw a crowd, so if you’ve been reading so far, make sure you get in early to pick up your issue…cause as popular as this book has been so far, it’s about to get even more popular.

X-Men #2 (Marvel) – Brain Wood crafted a great first issue for the female centric X-Men team led by the likes of Storm and Rogue.  Throw in a really cool plot, lots of badass chicks working together…and a great art style from Olivier Coipel, and you’ve got the makings of (yet) another great new series!  If yo missed issue #1, if your store is worth their salt, they probably still have a few issues kicking around so pick up #1 and #2 and enjoy!  Tell ‘em I sent you!

Daredevil #27 (Marvel) – It’s finally come to this.  If you haven’t been reading…just ignore this and move onto the next paragraph.  If you have been reading, like I have, Daredevil’s 26 issue journey is about to come full circle as he faces off against _____________ one more time in what is certain to be an instant classic of an issue.  Instant.  Classic.  Guaranteed.

Fatale #15 (Image) – The (great) one shots are over, and now it’s time for the continuing adventures of Jo…this time in the modern era.  What poor sap is going to be blindly drawn to helping this poor fatale?  What does the Cthulhu cult chasing her have in store for the long time object of their twisted affection?  If you’ve ever, ever thought about jumping on this series…and you know its good cause I just won’t stop talking about it every month…then now is the time.  You won’t regret it.

Lazarus #1 (Image) – Greg Rucka is a great writer.  Michael Lark is a great artist.  Image is a great comic book company.  Lazarus has a great concept.  What would happen if the 1% became the .000001%?  What if everyone else was left to fend for themselves among the chaos?  What if the rich genetically engineered ‘protectors’ to keep them safe and secure?  Not sold yet?  Image #1’s almost always instantly appreciate in value.  This one’s a no brainer folks!

The Wake #2 (Vertigo) – Scott Snyder hit the shelves hard two weeks ago with 3 amazing (Batman, Superman Unchained, American Vampire) books.  This week, his ‘other’ baby hits with issue #2 of the underwater horror series The Wake.  I thoroughly enjoyed the premier issue. Part Abyss, part Bermuda Triangle mystery and part full blown horror movie style….Snyder and Sean Murphy are setting this one up to be a real winner.  Don’t delay jumping on this limited series…even if your store has amazing taste like Heroes World does, the issues are bound to sell out fast!

Trade Watch

With all of these amazing comics out this week (my God there’s a ton of awesome books, isn’t there?) you might not have room for a trade purchase or two.  Then again, some of you choose to trade wait, and if that’s you, then you’re in luck cause there’s some good stuff on tap this week too!  There’s the awesome Fatale Vol 3 TP, Hickman’s Fantastic Four Vol 6 TP, Castle: Calm Before the Storm HC, True Blood Vol 1 TP, the fun Superman Family Adventures Vol 1 TP, and a couple of Before Watchmen Deluxe HC’s, with Minutemen/Slik Spectre and Ozymandias/Crimson Corsair.  Apologies to your wallet from the comic book industry.
