This Week’s New Comics!

5 Comics To Watch

Avengers #15 (Marvel) – The Prelude to Infinity issue was very, very good…bringing together the threads sewn into the Avengers title since issue #1. As with many Jonathan Hickman books, they get better and better the longer the series goes, as all his sidetracks start to point in one direction. I’ve got high hopes for Infinity, and am really looking forward to this issue.

Batman Inc. #12 (D.C.) – I’m a pretty big Grant Morrison fan. I’ve been reading his Batman stuff since Batman and Robin #1 pre NEW 52 (which is what got me back into comics nearly 3 years ago), and have been following pretty much everything he’s written involving Bruce Wayne/Batman since. With only two more issues left in his nearly six year run, I’m extremely invested in what will happen between Batman, Talia and Leviathan. I was quite impressed with his Action Comics closer, but that was after only 13 issues…so imagine what rabbit Morrison is about to pull out of his hat for this epic finale?

Daredevil Dark Nights #2 (Marvel) – Anything Daredevil seems to sell these days, from Mark Waid’s awesome monthly series, to Brian Michael Bendis’ great Daredevil End of Days series. Dark Nights sold a ton of #1’s, and the winter whiteout story, written and drawn by Lee Weeks, looks like another addition to the list of great Matt Murdock books.

Green Arrow #22 (D.C.) – For me, Batman and Batwoman remain my favourite D.C. books…with All Star Western and Batman Inc. close behind…but since issue #17, Green Arrow has rocketed to the top of my eagerly anticipated and favourite books, and into a comfortable spot on my Top 10. Critics still aren’t totally on board, but between Jeff Lemire’s steady hand writing the series, and Andrea Sorrentino’s incredible art (it’s absolutely mind blowing!) I have no doubt that as long as these two are at the controls, this book will be a must read for me. Oh yeah, and Count Vertigo makes his debut in this issue!

Green Lantern #22 (D.C.) – The jury is still out on the post Geoff Johns Green Lantern era, but so far, so good. Fans have transitioned to the new book, and from what I’ve been hearing, have enjoyed the familiar, yet fresh take on the character and the world Johns created. To compare him to what Scott Snyder has done on Batman may be a bit unfair, but Robert Venditti seems to be reading from the same playbook as my boy Snyder when it comes to taking over a fan favourite series.

Ten Grand #3 (Image) – Yet another hot Image book to talk about, as Michael Straczynski and Ben Templesmith are crafting a cool detective noir story with a supernatural edge to it. Amazing art, dark storytelling…and a love story at the heart of it all. Early issues are nearly impossible to find now, so if you spot a copy at your local comic shop, you’d do well to pick it up.
